Imagine a hand-crafted cedar cabin in your own private forest

  • A romantic honeymoon hideaway in the woods
  • A restful base camp close to Mt. Rainier adventures
  • An environmentally friendly retreat with the peace and rejuvenation only nature can give

This is Cedar Loft Cabin, Ashford’s most secluded getaway.  It nestles alone on its own four wooded acres with no other cabins around, yet it's not far from the town center. The unique two-story lodging was designed and built by Bill Compher, recognized worldwide for his imaginative structures.  The cabin's amenities are abundant, including a huge deck and hot tub. Look up at the stars as you soak and relax in privacy.

Cedar Loft Cabin is only four miles from the Nisqually (Paradise, Longmire) entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park.  This is the main entrance and the only one open year-round.  Being on the Mountain is an amazing experience, whatever your skill level.  Spring is in bloom now at the cabin, but in the national park, there's still lots of snow for snowshoeing, skiing, sledding and snowboarding.  There also are many opportunities to play in the mountains outside the park.  In every season, we'll help you find the outdoor adventure you want.

The lodging accommodates up to five people total. Children age 10 and older are welcome. The main cabin's master bedroom has a queen bed that looks out at mountains and treetops. There is no ladder to climb to our roomy upstairs, only an easy flight of stairs. An adjoining room has a twin bed. Two more adults can share a queen bed in a separate bedroom cabin we call Nearby, not rented separately.  Nearby offers privacy, yet is only a few steps across the deck from the shared cedar bathroom in the main house. All of our sleeping rooms receive morning sun.

The living/dining area, furnished with original art, has a telephone, DVD/CD with a selection of movies, as well as puzzles, games and a booklover’s library for reading by the cast-iron gas stove. Browse our books about the Mountain to plan your adventures. If you want to book a massage to relax afterward, we can help you coordinate that.

Kitchen appliances include a full-size refrigerator, gas range, microwave, toaster oven, toaster, blender, coffee pot -- even a frother and flavorings for lattes. We stock organic gourmet coffee and teas and a cook’s supply of herbs, spices, organic olive oil, tamari and balsamic vinegar.  You'll find organic herbs growing outside just for your use and eco-friendly products throughout the cabin.

Step out the back door to a 400-square-foot deck with a dining area, grill and five-person hot tub. Just off the spacious deck is an expansive grass meadow.  Both the meadow and deck catch the sun. The woods beyond are adjacent to hundreds of acres of mature forest protected in perpetuity by the Nisqually Land Trust. For eco-tourism, the cabin's locale is spectacular.

Espresso shops and great restaurants are only a few minutes away.  For a moonlight stroll, you only have to walk down our driveway to Mt. Tahoma Canyon Road, the old stagecoach road James Longmire built to Mt. Rainier. Now it’s an enchanting country byway with a canopy of alders and big-leaf maples. Cars won’t whiz by, but watch out for deer and elk.
